Crazy Times

I'd thought the Crazy Aunt would be taking a break this festive season - but all this sunshine and chill time has had me itching to get sewing. The past few days I've been in my element matching up scraps of fabric and sewing the cutest little handbags for my nieces (I'll post pics soon), market shopping bags for women I can't name here (because they're gifts), and adult Ts for other people who'll soon be receiving their gifts in the post. Man, it's good to be on holiday!

Blue stripe T, yellow star, 0 to 3 months

This stripe shirt is all about fun, and looks great with denim.

Red striped T, blue heart, 18 to 24 months

There's something nautical about this little shirt, which has ragged edging around the neck and sleeves. It'd look super-cute with a denim skirt or shorts.

Born in 2010, pink & maroon, 0 to 3 months

This is the Crazy Aunt's way of gearing up for the football. Actually, this is just the beginning - I've got some fun things planned for 2010!
Price: R120

Olive stripe T, cream star, 18 to 24 months

Such fab colours for a little boy! I'll try to get hold of more shirts like this. I thought of Riley, my nephew, while making this. It'd look gorgeous on him, with his blonde hair and big brown eyes. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the shirt in his size.

Yellow trim grower, red Africa, 6 to 12 months

Loving the crisp summer colours of this little grower. I have a few more like this, and will be sewing other designs onto them.

Green grower with heart, 12 to 18 months

What I like about this grower is that it's feminine but not pink. The fabric of the circle is so pretty, and I wish I could have found more. I got it about a year ago from someone who was throwing out off-cuts of fabric.

Blue & turquoise Africa T, 2 to 3 years

This is the first shirt bigger than 24 months I've put on my blog - purely because the background I have at the moment isn't big enough to fit kiddies shirt on! Beluga Bear in Franschhoek stocks these shirts, up to size 9 to 10 years, and word is they're the most popular things in the shop.

Purple stripe grower, pink heart, 0 to 3 months

Such a cute little grower. I'm hoping to find more lilac things for little girls, because not everyone's into pink.

Camel cords, brown & cream Africa, 12 to 18 months

When my niece Karlee started to crawl, I gave her a pair of brown pants. Word is, they were the best things ever! So I was reminded of her when I found these camel-coloured corduroys.

Pink T, brown & pink heart, 12 to 18 months

I *love* pink and brown together! And I also love the simplicity of this design.

Sorry for the silence

It's been an ages since I posted any pictures. Truth is, I've been tied up working on the launch of a new magazine, and Crazy Aunt has taken a back seat. But - I've also been working on some new designs, and hope to have them posted here within the next week or so. Watch this space - some fab things are on the way!

Chapter 1

Once upon a time, in the late 1970s, my mum used to sew my clothes. She'd stitch letters and shapes onto them from scrap pieces of fabric, and create something that no one else in the world was wearing. It's become something of a family tradition, us Exelby girls sewing for nephews and nieces and friends' babies (and my mum for her first grandchild).
Because most of the designs I create are once-off, The Crazy Aunt Company doesn't have a catalogue. I'll be using this space to post photos of clothes adapted by The Crazy Aunt Company – and if you like anything you see or would like to place an order, please email me (narina@thecrazyauntcompany.co.za) and I'll get back to you with a price that includes postage.
